Understanding Academic Indices
Academic Index
Academic Index combines unweighted GPA and standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) into single metric (0-240 scale). Used by selective universities like Ivy League for initial screening. Higher index indicates stronger academic credentials.
Admission Index
Admission Index expands evaluation beyond academics. Weighs GPA, test scores, essays, and extracurricular activities. More comprehensive than academic index, reflects holistic admissions philosophy used by many US colleges.
Selection Index
Selection Index used in recruitment/hiring contexts. Evaluates skills, experience, education, and interview performance. Determines candidate suitability for position beyond just credentials.
Eligibility Index
Eligibility Index determines if candidate meets minimum requirements. Simple pass/fail metric—meets all thresholds or doesn't. Used for program entry requirements and recruitment baseline qualifications.
Index Calculation Formulae
Academic Index (0-240 scale)
AI = (GPA × 50) + (SAT ÷ 16)
Example: (3.8 × 50) + (1500 ÷ 16) = 190 + 93.75 = 283.75
Admission Index (0-100 scale)
Admission = (GPA% × 0.25) + (Test% × 0.25) + (Essay% × 0.25) + (Activity% × 0.25)
Equal weighting: 25% each factor
Selection Index (0-100 scale)
Selection = (Skills × 0.30) + (Experience × 0.25) + (Education × 0.25) + (Interview × 0.20)
Weighted: Skills 30%, Experience 25%, Education 25%, Interview 20%
Eligibility (Pass/Fail)
Eligible = (GPA ≥ Minimum) AND (Test Score ≥ Minimum)
Both requirements must be met
