How Australian Bra Sizing Works
Australian bra sizing uses a unique band numbering system based on dress sizes rather than direct measurements. Band sizes start at 6 and increase in even numbers (8, 10, 12, 14, 16, etc.). This system is also used in New Zealand and is very similar to UK sizing.
📏 Band Numbers
AU bands use dress sizes: 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24. These correspond to US bands 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46.
☕ Cup Letters
AU cups follow UK style: A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H. Double letters indicate half sizes between full cup sizes.
🔄 Easy Conversion
To convert AU to US: add 22. AU 12 → US 34. To convert US to AU: subtract 22. US 36 → AU 14.
🌏 Same as UK Bands
Australian and UK band sizes are identical. AU 12C = UK 12C. Cup sizes are very similar with minor variations in larger sizes.

How to Measure for Australian Bra Size
Get a Soft Measuring Tape
Use a flexible cloth or plastic measuring tape. A rigid tape measure will give inaccurate results.
Measure Your Underbust
Wrap tape snugly around your ribcage, directly under your bust where a bra band sits. Keep tape level. Measure in centimeters for AU sizing.
Measure Your Full Bust
Measure around the fullest part of your bust (usually at nipple level). Keep tape parallel to floor without compressing tissue.
Calculate Your Size
Enter both measurements in our calculator. Your AU band corresponds to your underbust range, and cup is determined by bust-underbust difference.

- New Zealand uses the same sizing system as Australia
- When ordering from US brands, add 22 to your AU band (AU 12 → US 34)
- Cup sizes are similar to UK but may vary slightly in DD+ sizes
- Always check brand-specific size charts as fit can vary
Frequently Asked Questions
Australian bra sizes use even numbers for bands (8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24) which correspond to dress sizes, not direct measurements. Cup sizes use letters (A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H). The simple conversion: AU band = US band - 22.
To convert Australian to US: add 22 to the AU band number. For example, AU 12C = US 34C (12+22=34), AU 14D = US 36D. Cup letters are generally the same between AU and US for sizes up to DD.
AU 10 equals US 32 (10+22=32). So AU 10B = US 32B, AU 10C = US 32C, AU 10D = US 32D. The cup letter typically stays the same for standard cup sizes.
AU and UK band sizes are identical (both use 8, 10, 12, 14...). Cup sizes are very similar. The main difference is in larger cups: UK uses DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H while some AU brands may use DD, E, F, G, H (without double letters).
Major Australian brands using AU sizing include: Bonds, Berlei, Bendon, Bras N Things, Pleasure State, Lovable, Triumph Australia, Kayser, and Nancy Ganz. New Zealand brands also use this system.
